When selecting interior doors for construction and renovation projects, raw material composition directly determines long-term performance, service life and application scenarios. Extruded WPC, PVC and MDF are three widely used door materials, and their gaps all start from raw materials.
1. Raw Material Composition
Extruded WPC (Wood-Plastic Composite) Made of wood fiber blended with thermoplastic resin. The mixture goes through one-step extrusion to form a hollow integrated door leaf. No glued core or grid filling.
PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) Pure thermoplastic resin, with minor additives. No natural wood fiber in the base material.
MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) Made of fine wood fibers bonded together with adhesive under high pressure. It is a solid wood-based panel.
2. Performance Gaps Caused by Raw Material Differences ✅ Moisture & Water Resistance Extruded WPC: Wood fibers are wrapped in plastic resin. It will not absorb water, swell or deform in humid environments. PVC: Fully waterproof, but lacks wood components. MDF: Wood fibers and glue absorb moisture easily. It swells, warps and loses structural strength once exposed to humidity.
✅ Dimensional Stability Extruded WPC: The composite formula plus hollow integrated extrusion structure keeps stable size under temperature and humidity changes. PVC: Stable dimension, but tends to feel plastic and rigid. MDF: Prone to expansion and contraction when humidity fluctuates.
✅ Surface Texture & Aesthetics Extruded WPC: Contains wood fiber, delivering natural wood touch and grain after lamination. PVC: Smooth plastic surface; artificial wooden look without real wood texture. MDF: Good for carving and profiling, but easy to damage when moisture enters.
✅ Durability & Maintenance Extruded WPC: Resists termites, rot and cracking. Low maintenance. PVC: Durable but less premium in visual feeling. MDF: Requires perfect sealing of all cut edges; once the seal breaks, the board gets damaged quickly.
3. Suitable Application Scenarios
Extruded WPC doors: Bathrooms, kitchens, coastal projects, humid residential & commercial buildings.
PVC doors: Budget projects requiring simple waterproof function, where wood texture is not prioritized.
MDF doors: Dry indoor environments, such as bedrooms and living rooms with stable humidity.
Summary The raw material formula is the root of performance differences. Extruded hollow integrated WPC combines the wood feeling and plastic waterproof advantage. It solves the biggest weakness of MDF (moisture swelling) and the unnatural plastic look of pure PVC. It becomes a reliable all-weather door solution for high-humidity projects.
